Winter Cold Is Here

Environment Canada expects temperatures to stay a few degrees below seasonal in southwestern Ontario, as November wraps up.

However, Senior Climatologist David Phillips says it's not all doom and gloom going forward.

"Even getting temperatures where we could get back up to the double-digits (Celsius), I think that's a possibility. We've seen those in December, and with tropical air, southerly air, American air, that's still a possibility."

Phillips says El Nino will play a role in making this winter much more mild, overall, than what's been experienced in the region over the last two years.

At this time in 2014, the area had already been hit with 20 cm (8 in) of snow, and temperatures were hovering around minus 11 C (12 F).

Phillips says the dip in temperature we're feeling now is simply a good reminder to find your winter tires, shovels and ice scrapers.
