As part of a national day of remembrance, Chatham-Kent police are kicking off a festive RIDE program for the winter season. On Wednesday during the National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims, the Chatham-Kent Police Service, along with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, launched the RIDE program at police headquarters. Constable Renee Cowell says if everyone pays attention and follows the rules of the road, the community will be a much safer place. "On average, five people die on Canadian roads every day," she says. "We're here to promote education and awareness. You'll probably see vehicles with red ribbons and that signifies Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and our commitment to trying to keep our roadways safe." Cowell says the RIDE programs will be held sporadically throughout Chatham-Kent until the new year.
"We just like to remind everyone that if they are drinking to please plan ahead," she says. "Either use a designated driver or call a cab."
