Capitol Theatre Management In Limbo

Now that word is out St.Clair College is backing away from managing the Capitol Theatre, municipal staff have issued a statement.

CAO Don Shropshire says going forward, the municipality needs to make sure the Capitol is managed in the most sustainable and productive way. He says council has instructed staff to look at the options for achieving this and to report back in a public council meeting.

This mornings' statement follows a BlackburnNews.com report on the weekend that the college was opting out of its agreement to manage the theatre after four-years on the job due to its financial position and the cost of operating the theatre. Opting out was a clause included in their contract.

Councillor Michael Bondy says prior to the agreement with the college, annual operational costs of the Capitol ranged between $600,000 and $800,000.
