Officials with the Ambassador Bridge say they're going "above and beyond" to try and wipe away the city's concerns over falling debris.
"Even in areas where there's not a concern for falling debris, we're going to cover those up as well," says director of security for the bridge Stan Korosec.
Crews began installing wood boards over the weekend to catch anything that may fall.
"It's not a permanent solution," he says. "This is a generally accepted short-term maintenance plan. You'll see other bridges, domestic bridges, do the same thing when they have concerns about debris that may be falling."
It's expected to take a few weeks to complete the installation of the wood planks.
In the meantime, city CAO Helga Reidel says she's pleased to see the progress, but the streets underneath will remained closed until an engineer evaluates the scene.
But in order to fully fix the bridge, a twin span may be needed, Korosec says.
"The only way to really fix this bridge is to completely take the whole deck down and then rebuild it," he says. "Obviously we can't shut down the four lanes of bridge."
Last week Matt Moroun with the Ambassador Bridge assured everyone the bridge isn't crumbling.
