Liberal candidate Katie Omstead isn't worried that her party leader hasn't made it past London during this election campaign. In fact, she says Justin Trudeau isn't needed.
"What people in this riding care about is their local representative," she says. "I'm working very hard to get to every single door and talk to every single person. The fact that I've been in every single community is what will matter here."
The closest the Liberal leader has come to Chatham-Kent-Essex is London, but Omstead says she hasn't even requested a visit. She notes NDP Leader Tom Mulcair and Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper haven't come any closer to her riding than Essex.
"If they're not in your actual riding I don't think it makes much of a difference," says Omstead. "The way that Mr. Harper has been campaigning and out on the trail, he hasn't really been accessible to most Canadians, so I don't think his visits make much of an impact."
Omstead is running against Conservative incumbent Dave Van Kesteren, the NDP party's Tony Walsh and Mark Vercouteren from the Green Party.
Election Day is Monday, October 19.
