Windsor Mayor Supports TPP

Windsor's mayor feels the new Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement will have an overall benefit to the city.
Drew Dilkens says his main concern leading up to the deal was our automotive sector.
"What I know for certain is that the TPP is going to open up our export market to an additional 800 million people," he says. "Twelve countries have formed this agreement. It would have been devastating if Canada didn't join the TPP just because of the opportunities it presents."
Full details of the agreement haven't been released yet and it must first be approved by each government.
Some auto workers may feel a negative impact if more foreign car parts enter Canada. Cars will avoid tariffs if 45% of its content is from a TPP region, down from 62.5% under NAFTA.
Canada's dairy sector is also affected and would see 3.25% more imports allowed.
"The net impact has yet to be seen, but I think at the end of the day this is going to have an overall net benefit to the City of Windsor and to the country as well," he says.
