NDP Open To Liberal Coalition

An NDP MP has floated the idea of a coalition government with the Liberals to keep Prime Minister Stephen Harper from forming a government.

Nathan Cullen, a prominent MP from British Columbia, made the comments during an event yesterday.

But, retired University of Windsor political science professor Lloyd Brown-John says you shouldn't expect leader Tom Mulcair to echo those sentiments. "If I were Mr. Mulciar, I certainly wouldn't be running around saying I'm willing to form a coalition. He has to say that his party is capable of forming a majority."

There was talk of a coalition government when the NDP and Liberal joined forces to stop a Conservative budget from being passed, but new Liberal leadership was reluctant to the idea.

While rare in Canada, coalitions are common place in democracy's in Europe.
