Earthquake Hits Michigan

The United States Geological Survey says a 3.3-magnitude earthquake hit central Michigan today.

It says the quake came from about 5 km (3.1 mi.) beneath the surface, about 20 km (12.4 mi.) southeast of Battle Creek, just before noon.

Reports say this could be the aftershock of a 4.2-magnitude quake which shook the western Michigan town of Galesburg back in May.

The strongest earthquake to ever be recorded in the state of Michigan registered 4.6 on the Richter scale, back in 1947.
