Smoking Near Park A Problem

A number of smoking complaints near a small ball park could be resolved through awareness, according to one Chatham-Kent councillor.

Bob Myers says Chatham's Jaycee Park doesn't offer a lot of space around it for smokers.

"Smokers have been leaving the park, which is what we want them to do, but the problem is, when they go across the road, the smoke is wafting into the neighbours' backyards," he says. "I like the idea of having the ball conveners talk to those people and discourage it as much as possible, maybe they can go without smoking for a couple of hours."
Smoking is banned in the park and the parking lot is small and usually full of cars, and anti-smoking laws don't cover streets and sidewalks.
