The unusual sight of hundreds of bees swarming in downtown Windsor isn't all that out of the ordinary, according to a local bee expert.
Tom Congdon with Sun Parlour Honey in Cottam says swarming is part of the bees' reproductive process. "They'll leave the colony and look for a new place to establish a second colony, so it's just the honey bees way of reproducing."
Congdon says bees are usually docile while swarming and only become aggressive when provoked.
An amateur beekeeper collected the swarm yesterday afternoon at the corner of University Ave. and Ouellette Ave.
Congdon says the swarm is a regular occurrence, and shouldn't be considered a sign the bee population is returning.
