Fireworks Start Time Moved Up

Tonight's fireworks have been moved up to as early as 9:06pm because of bad weather in the forecast. Officials say they'll be closely monitoring radar and select a more definitive start time the closer it gets.

Pat Delmore, with Transit Windsor, says street closures and busing schedules will remain the same. If tonight's Ford Fireworks are completely washed out then the makeup date and time will be tomorrow at 10:06pm.

Geoff Coulson with Envinroment Canada says we could be in for some nasty weather.

"Realizing the fireworks are probably going to get going late this evening, that's when our greatest chance of shower and thunderstorm activity will be occurring."

The forecast calls for clear skies Tuesday night. Both a severe thunderstorm warning and watch from Environment Canada have ended for the region.

Weather aside, the annual Detroit Fireworks always draws massive crowds, but also a huge police presence.

Windsor police Sgt. Matthew D'Asti is urging cyclists, e-bikes and skateboarders steer clear.

"Obviously we're going to have barricades erected to prevent vehicles from going in those areas, but we don't want cyclists, e-bike riders, skateboarders in that area," says D'Asti. "Just because of the number of pedestrians that are going to be expected in those areas and it's for public safety reason."

Another tip -- D'Asti recommends having an emergency plan if you're bringing kids.

"Just in case you get separated and if you are a parent who gets separated from your child, definitely approach a police officer," he says. "We obviously have radios and we can make those communications. We are going to be out there in mass."

Transit Windsor is also offering its free shuttle service to the fireworks again tonight. The service starts at 6pm at Devonshire Mall and returns immediately following the display. The last bus leaves downtown Windsor at 12:30am.

Road closures start at 6pm as shown in the map pictured above.
