Windsor-Essex just might break a record for rainfall this month.
So far, the region has received 111mm of rain. Environment Canada Meteorologist Peter Kimbell says the record, set in June 2008 is 170mm. "We do see it continuing to be unsettled. So, a chance of showers on many days. The next day with the large probability of precipitation is going to be on Thursday."
As of Tuesday, the forecast calls for a 60% chance of rain or thunderstorms. Over the weekend, the probability of rain lowers to 40%.
But if the rain has you feeling down, Kimbell says in other parts of the province, it's welcomed. "In parts of Ontario, particularly in the east, there were complaints of it being too dry in May, so we've bounced back, big time."
The Essex Region Conservation Authority issued a flood watch Sunday and extended it Monday after heavy rain over the weekend. On Tuesday morning, the flood watch was rescinded.
Unfortunately, the statistics weren't available for Chatham-Kent. Kimbell suspects a problem with the instruments that measure precipitation for that region because the numbers are unusually low.
