Amherstburg Fire Chief Terminated

Amherstburg's fire chief and two firefighters have been relieved of their duties following a lengthy in-camera council meeting on Tuesday.

Mayor Aldo DiCarlo says council is looking to move the fire department in a new direction by dismissing Chief Randy Sinasac and two unnamed firefighters.

DiCarlo won't specify why they were fired, but says this issue has been "progressing over a period of time."

"There were some petitions that came about regarding, let's just say, the working conditions," says DiCarlo. "This is something that this council inherited."

Whether Sinasac received a severance payout or not can't be discussed, Dicarlo says, because it's a legal matter. "Listen, as far as budgets and transparency goes -- once we get past the area where we have to be concerned about liability to the town, obviously that information is going to be available," he says.

DiCarlo says CAO John Miceli is searching for a short-term solution with the ultimate goal of finding a permanent replacement for Sinasac down the road.
