Suspicious Person Approaches Student

Chatham-Kent police are asking for your help to identify a suspicious person who offered a student a ride home from a school function in Thamesville.

Police say a Grade 6 student recently told them an older man approached him on April 2 at around 8pm and asked him if he needed a ride home. The boy declined the man's offer and continued rollerblading home in the rain while the man drove away.

Investigators say the man had brownish, gray hair and a white beard. He was last seen in the area of Wallace St. and Jane St. in Thamesville, driving an older black Jeep with rust on it.

Police say a parent has now come forward to report that she observed a suspicious vehicle on the same date around 5pm on Railroad St. The vehicle is described as an old rusted dark gray SUV with an extremely loud muffler.

Anyone with information that may help officers to identify the man or the vehicle is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
