Local Grads Find Guaranteed Employment

One local college graduate is taking advantage of a new program that guarantees her full-time work for at least 12 months.

Marija Stojkoska recently graduated from St. Clair College's advertising and marketing program.

Stojkoska says it's very difficult to find a job these days, something the company Mobilize was able to do. "It makes you anxious and you want to kind of throw the towel in and (say) maybe I should just go back to school," says Stojkoska. "Mobilize gives the experience and the opportunity to step outside the box and see what else is out there."

Stojkoska will travel out west and work for a year starting in May. The goal, she says, is to make connections, gain experience and secure permanent employment.

Mobilize is a national youth employment initiative that started in January. They pair Canadians in the ages of 18-30 with jobs in the customer service, hospitality and tourism industries. "Every four months they will move to a new city, work in a brand new position with a different company. They'll receive a salary (and) monthly employment bonuses," says Mobilize project manager Benjamin Guth. "My personal favourite -- all of our placement partners are paying the entire cost of housing."

Guth says he's been receiving quality applicants from the Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent regions. "I wish I could replicate that and only recruit out of that region," says Guth. "I don't know whether it's something in the water, but it is an absolutely phenomenal type of person we're finding in that region."
