Sharks Staying In Wheatley

A group of local business owners has stepped-up to buy the Wheatley Sharks and keep the team in town.

Director with the Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) Larry Keenan says it's a pretty big ownership group. "From what I understand it's somewhere in the 12 (owners) range, there may be a couple more that step up," says Keenan. "But that's a pretty good number and it really spreads out the workload when something like that happens."

Keenan says the team will be run under the model of a community-based hockey club, with the OHA not likely to give the final stamp of approval for another 6-8 weeks. He adds the sale price of the team won't be released by the OHA.

Via the Wheatley Sharks Twitter account Wednesday, March 11, the team announced Brad Hyatt as director of hockey operations and Pete Anthony as general manager.
