Tackling Potholes And Watermain Breaks

As temperatures across the region start to warm-up, potholes and broken watermains will become a growing issue.

Chatham-Kent's Director of Public Works Miguel Pelletier says coming out of a deep freeze does present some challenges.

"Because the ground is frozen, it's hard for us to tell and it's hard for us to dig and to go find out what's happening underneath," says Pelletier. "And if you try to use heat cameras and things like that it doesn't show you anything."

Pelletier says in one day alone earlier this week, they had six watermain leaks, which he says are difficult to spot and address, because the ground is frozen. With 3,500 km of roads to monitor in Chatham-Kent, Pelletier adds addressing all the breaks and potholes is no easy task.
