CK To Discuss Animal Bylaw

Municipal officials are unleashing the Responsible Animal Ownership Bylaw in a public meeting tonight.

The draft bylaw sees a number of restrictions including a household animal limit of 10, and the length of time an animal can be tethered outside set at 12 hours.

Manager of Licensing Services Nancy Havens says local animal rights groups have already requested some changes be made. “They want a clause regarding extreme weather conditions, and also a clause regarding abandonment…that you can’t dispose of live animals on a property unless you have the permission of the property owner.”

Havens adds once they’re finished with taking feedback, they’ll attach it to the report that they hope will go before council near the end of March. Tonight’s meeting is open to the public and gets going at 6pm in council chambers.
