Kaake Murder Sparks Petition

An online petition is looking to have the Unborn Victims of Crime Act brought back before parliament as a direct response to the murder of pregnant Cassandra Kaake in Windsor.

The petition is pushing to have Bill C-484 revisited by MP's which would allow for charges in the case of an unborn baby being hurt or killed.

Kaake was seven months pregnant when police say she was murdered. Her baby was going to be named Molly.

Jeff Durham is the father and he's getting behind the Molly Matters petition as well, writing an open letter to MP Jeff Watson backing the bill.

Bill C-484 was introduced in 2008 and reached second reading before a federal election killed the legislation.

The Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada is one of the groups opposing the bill, calling it a step towards recriminalizing abortion.
