PC Leadership Candidate Talks Jobs

PC leadership hopeful Christine Elliott made a stop in the region, trying to drum up support in the event she becomes the party's next leader.

Elliott was at the Chatham Retro Suites on Tuesday, meeting with supporters. She says it was nice to speak with local residents about party politics, but also issues that affect Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex. "Certainly there is a concern about a loss of jobs from southwestern Ontario and we need to look at what new policies we need to put in place in order to make sure we can create jobs here," says Elliott.

The Whitby-Oshawa MPP says she has plans to help secure this region's automotive industry. "The first is to keep taxes low, both individual and corporate taxes as an inducement for businesses to locate here," says Elliott. "We also need to create a coherent energy policy. Right now we don't have one and we've got the second highest industrial rate in North America."

She also calls the current Green Energy Act a "disaster for Ontario" and she thinks municipalities should have a say on where wind turbines are placed. If elected leader, Elliott says she would have a committee with PC MPPs who represent different areas of the province.
