Council Endorses Planning Changes

Despite the province posing limitations on Chatham-Kent's official plan, Mayor Randy Hope is confident they can still create a municipality that can foster urban development.

The draft decision says given CK's current situation, they don't need settlement area expansion for future growth.

Rather than go through the courts, Hope says they can still approve adjustments until their next Official Plan. "I'm not going to waste money appealing against the province, they have the power. They tell me what to do under this process. But I do know that the authority to amend the official plan lies with the municipality."

The "Power Centre" in north Chatham currently has 225,000 sq ft of commercial land use space alone.
