Mittens Donated To Sally Ann

About 220 mittens, scarves and toques will be available for those in need at the Salvation Army branch in Chatham.

The donation comes from the Chatham-Kent OPP. Constable Janine Belanger says the community stepped up.

"There's a lot of hand-knit items, so people go to great lengths to donate," says Belanger. "It's done with a lot of love and a lot of care. You can really tell people care for those in need."

Belanger says about the same number of items was donated last year and stresses the OPP are always open to taking more donations.

"Mitts and hats and scarves are just not something that is important to adults who need to feed their children first," says Rhonda Dickson, the family services coordinator for the Chatham-Kent Salvation Army.

Dickson expects donated items to go quickly and adds the donations will also be available at the Blenheim, Ridgetown and Wallaceburg offices of the Salvation Army if needed.
