An opportunity for the public to learn about the financial incentives for planting trees on their property in the spring.
Greg Van Every is with the Lower Thames Conservation Authority. He says today's open house will detail cash incentives for natural restoration projects. "Basically it depends on the size of area," says Van Every. "If you're doing let's say a reforestation project above one-acre you can get 40% coverage, if you're doing above 2.5 acres you can get 75% coverage, and that includes the trees and the planting."
Van Every says wetland and prairie restoration incentives will also be outlined. He adds that they've already seen an increase in land owners signing-up for larger projects over two acres, with approximately 22 land owners signed-up so far, up about seven from last year.
The open house runs from 9am-11am and 4pm-7pm at the LTVCA office at 100 Thames St. in Chatham. The deadline to sign-up for the financial incentive programs is March 15.
