Leamington Hospital Is Safe

A new mega-hospital for Windsor-Essex doesn't mean the end for Leamington District Memorial Hospital.

David Musyj, Windsor Regional Hospital CEO and co-chair of the Program and Services Steering Committee for the proposed new single-site acute care hospital, stresses LDMH has to stay.

"It has to be safe. There's no way we can get through what we're seeing currently, let alone the future, without a strong Leamington hospital," says Musyj, adding a closer partnership with the hospital is essential to improved healthcare in the region. "What we want to make sure is when they do have to be transfered [from Leamington to the new hospital], we have the facilities available for them and they don't have to wait."

The question on the future of the Leamington hospital was the first from the audience of more than 100 attending a Tuesday night information meeting at Migration Hall in Kingsville on the process towards a new mega-hospital.

Kingsville resident Harold Remark was in attendance and hopes the site selected for the new hospital is big enough for growth down the road.

"We need a facility, regardless where it is, that will be able to be expanded and changed in 20 or 30 years from now," says Remark.

Musyj hopes to have a location picked for the proposed hospital by June.
