Windsor police have made an arrest in the investigation into the murder of a pregnant woman.
Matthew Brush has been arrested following the December murder of Cassandra Kaake.
Brush, 26, of LaSalle has been charged with first degree murder. He's also being charged with arson with disregard for human life, arson causing property damage, possession of incendiary material for arson, break and enter and indecent interference with a dead body.
On December 11, police say Cassandra Kaake was found inside a home at 1566 Benjamin Ave. They say firefighters discovered the body after extinguishing a blaze. A postmortem exam revealed Kaake died of blood loss caused by severe trauma to her body. At the time police say she was seven months pregnant.
A veteran Windsor police officer described the murder as "one of the most disturbing crime scenes that I have seen in my 28 years of policing.”
Just two weeks ago Windsor police canvassed the neighbourhood, asking for volunteer DNA samples.
