No Leamington Tax Increase Proposed
There are no tax increases in this year’s proposed Leamington budget.
That despite the loss of tax revenue from the closure of the Heinz plant. Mayor John Paterson is pleased. “That was over $500,000 in revenue we lost. But, because of the work of our council and staff, we’ve been able to come up with some efficiencies and reduce costs in that respect.”
The budget includes the start of trail work along Seacliff Dr., planning for new sewer lines heading north to new employment lands and south along Bevel Line. There’s also over a dozen water main projects and the widening of a portion of Erie St. S included.
Leamington Council begins meeting to discuss the budget next Wednesday, with two-and-a-half days set aside for deliberations.
