Cougars Eye Championship With Expansion

In an effort to attract more varsity-aged players, a local football organization is broadening its reach.

The Chatham-Kent Cougars recently held recruitment and sign-up dates across both Chatham-Kent and Sarnia-Lambton. Organization president Sel Jordan believes if they can get the best players in the region, they can win a championship.

"We want to give these kids great experiences and values but we are playing to win," says Jordan. "And I truly believe if we're able to have 50 to 60 of the best players in this area, with multiple coaches, we will do well." Jordan says almost 60 players committed to the team during their tour last week.

Because of the size of the region, the team will hold two practices the same night in two different locations twice a week, and just one practice for all coaches and players to attend Thursday nights in Wallaceburg. The varsity age level ranges from 17 to 19 years old.
