The leader of the federal Liberal Party says manufacturing is a key part of what will make Canada successful in the future.
Justin Trudeau believes the country's lost out on recent bids to the United States and Mexico because the government hasn't done a good enough job selling itself. "Whether it's just investing and supporting the kind of research and development that means Canada will be a driver of products in the coming years, there are lots of things that the government needs to do to be a better partner to manufacturing companies. We need to make sure those investments are coming to Canada."
The HJ Heinz Company left Leamington for the US last year, and just last October, Mexico outbid Windsor for a contract to build a new type of engine for the Ford Motor Company.
Trudeau attended a Liberal rally Wednesday evening at the Ciociaro Club in Windsor. He will be touring the Ford Essex Engine Plant in Windsor this afternoon.
