Arena To Be Formally Discussed
Chatham-Kent administration is making sure the next time an OHL team approaches them, they’ll be able to give concrete answers.
Staff will seek direction from council to gauge interest in building an arena costing between $30-50 million if teams want to move to the area.
CAO Don Shropshire says part of the reason the Whalers passed over Chatham was because council couldn’t be consulted in time. “When people start hearing those sort of figures, I think it puts a different slant on things. This is not someone just being pro or anti hockey, this is looking at the entire impact on the tax base and all the other expenses we have to deal with.”
Shropshire says the discussion will be brought up some time in the first quarter, after budget talks are done.
