Auto Show 2015 (GALLERY)

The car and truck of the year have been announced during the media preview at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The Volkswagen GTI takes top honours for North American car, while the Ford F-150 is truck of year.

Media is getting the first look at this year's auto show today and Tuesday.

More than 5,000 journalists from all over the world are expected at COBO Hall to see new model and concept cars, as well as hear about the future plans of a number of auto manufacturers. Chrysler, Ford and GM are on the docket.

There will be industry and charity previews held after the two-day media event. The auto show will then be open to the public from January 17 to 25.

Attendance to the NAIAS has steadily increased since 2009, hitting 803,000 last year. That's the first time the show's had more than 800,000 visitors since 2003.
