Mayor Not Giving Up

Chatham-Kent's mayor is hoping he can convince the owner of the halted downtown Chatham condo to resume the project.

Mayor Randy Hope says he was surprised to hear Victor Boutin had put the brakes on the Boardwalk On The Thames project Thursday because he had been texting him the night before and figured the stoppage was weather-related. "He is a very particular individual about building a marquee building and making sure that the quality of workmanship is of high standards. But hoping to sit down in the very close future to have a discussion with Victor."

The mayor is hopeful a resolution can be found quickly and isn't ready to comment on the future of the project. "It's a developer's decision what they do and the bylaws that we have in the municipality only allow us to do a certain amount of things."

Boutin tells BlackburnNews.com he's not happy with the unionized workers, while the union believes it's being made a scapegoat to cover up other issues.
