Extreme Cold Warning In Effect

With wind chill temperatures near -30 C (-22 F), the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has issued an extreme cold warning.

Environment Canada has ended its extreme cold warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent, which was issued earlier this morning.

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit still has a cold weather alert in effect.

Warning signs of hypothermia include shivering, exhaustion, confusion, memory loss, slurred speech and drowsiness.

The health unit urges anyone who experiences hypothermia or frostbite, especially children and the elderly, to get warm and seek medical attention.

Environment Canada recommends wearing synthetic and wool fabrics to provide better insulation. Wear plenty of layers, warm socks, gloves, a hat and scarf. You lose heat faster when you're wet, so if you get damp change into dry clothing.
