Arctic Air Chills Southwestern Ontario

A frigid arctic airmass has arrived in southern Ontario and is expected to plunge Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex into a deep freeze for the rest of the week.

Environment Canada Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says the temperature will be well below where it normally is at this time of the year.

"To put things into context, a normal high for this time should be about -1C (30F) and we're going to be struggling to reach daytime highs of anywhere between -7C (19F) and -11C (12F)," says Coulson, adding we could be in for some cold weather alerts later this week. "Especially Wednesday morning or Thursday morning we could be seeing some windchill warnings or extreme cold warnings issued."

In order for Environment Canada to issue either of those warnings, the temperature with the windchill needs to dip below -30C (-22F). At this point, Coulson is expecting the temperature to stay just above that mark.
