Economic Development Reflects On 2014

In a year categorized by planting seeds for future business deals, Chatham-Kent Director of Economic Development Michael Burton provides some insight into what to expect from the municipality in 2015.

Burton discusses the Blenheim Global Development Centre and the next steps that will be taken in the new year. “Negotiating with architects and construction companies to start developing the project,” says Burton. “And our focus is going to be to bring additional new companies in that would be interested in investing in that site.” Burton adds this will take place in the next couple of months.

He also addresses the numerous trips to China taken by municipal officials this year. He explains deals with Chinese companies are extremely competitive, and details can’t be given until partnerships are finalized. “The total files of new business right now have an investment value of over $2-billion… these decisions don’t happen overnight.”

Businesses already present in Chatham-Kent cashed in too, with $42-million in new invested capital from senior levels of government.
