A lack of snow on the roads this December is freeing up public works crews for other projects in Chatham-Kent.
Director Miguel Pelletier says there are still other weather-related issues that are keeping them busy this month.
"There's still water breaks and sewer systems that we have to maintain and when it gets very cold we get additional breaks because sometimes the pipes freeze," says Pelletier. "We also work on the roads themselves, there are potholes to fix, so we're working on those."
Pelletier says the lack of snow will also help them manage their winter road maintenance spending, which is at least $1.3-million over budget for 2014.
