Anonymous Donor Buys Kids Coats

An anonymous donation to a Chatham group has resulted in new winter coats for kids in need.

Chair of East Side Pride Marjorie Crew was contacted by the donor via email, and given a $5,000 cheque to be spent on new winter coats the kids could choose themselves.

Crew says the Sears store agreed to partner with them and issued $50 gift certificates. “Because working with Sears there’s a huge discount that’s happening there and they assured us that most coats could be bought under the $50, and that with money left over out of the $50 they could buy boots and hats and mits, whatever they needed,” says Crew. She adds that the faces on the kids who┬áreceived the new coats and the excitement and joy they’ve expressed has been priceless.

Crew worked with officials at the Wish Centre to identify people they knew were in need and adds they weren’t hard to find. In the end she says they provided 92 winter coats.
