Transport Canada Reviews Turbine Policy

Transport Canada is reviewing its policy when it comes to obstacles like wind turbines near airports in light of a recent decision in Chatham.

Over the summer, the government agency ordered eight turbines near the Chatham-Kent Municipal Airport be torn down over safety concerns for air traffic.

Just this week, the government agency rescinded the demolition order after an appeal by the company that erected them. Transport Canada has instead decided to make changes to the pilot approach procedures so they know the turbines are there.

Officials wouldn't comment on the about face, only to say they're working to develop a consistent guide for future instances involving turbines and other obstacles.
