Big Funding Boost For CCAC
The Erie St.Clair Local Health Integration Network is giving the Community Care Access Centre a $4.1-million boost.
The CCAC is in the midst of reorganizing its services, which has resulted in a 33% drop in the number of home care visits for some patients. CEO Lori Marshall says between the funding boost, and having an extra year to balance its budget, the agency can make sure patients get the care they need. “That really gives us the opportunity to take a pause with existing patients, to make sure that we’re able to transition everyone,” she says. “No one will fall through the cracks.”
With the increase in funding, the agency can also avoid placing patients on wait lists.
The reorganization has been controversial. Windsor West MPP Lisa Gretzky characterizes it as a service cut and wants the provincial health minister to intervene, but Marshall says the CCAC is better tailoring service to suit patient needs.
