Protesting Violence Against Women

A growing number of people in Chatham-Kent are standing up to violence against women.

Dozens of area residents dressed in orange joined members of the local Zonta Club on the Third St. Bridge in Chatham over the noon hour to draw attention to the issue.

"Last year we had about 20 people, but this year we had about 30," says organizer Wanda Bell. "We had a few Zonta members, but it was really great to see people from the sexual assault crisis centre, the women's centre, and just people from the community at large join us."

Bell says today's action coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Towards Women.
