Maroons Edge Nationals, Add Goaltender
The Chatham Maroons took their second win in a row over the London Nationals in a close 3-2 game Sunday night.
After a scoreless first period, London drew first blood with a goal part way through the second. The Maroons were able to score two of their own before the final 20 minutes and one more in the third. The Nationals scored with just over eight minutes left in the game, but weren’t able to tie things up to force OT.
Maroons Head Coach Mark Davis says he thought both teams performed very well, especially in the first period. “The first period was amazing to coach, it was back and forth,” he says. “London has a nice team there, they’ve got a lot of fast players. I thought it was exciting.”
Meantime, the Maroons have acquired 20-year-old goaltender Jake Patterson, who spent the last three seasons with the OHL’s London Knights. Patterson wasn’t picked up as an overager after being released by the team so the Maroons figure it will take up to two weeks before he’s game ready. The Maroons are back on Thursday to take on the Sarnia Legionnaires at 7:10pm.
