Local Teams at OFSAA

Three Chatham-Kent teams are competing at OFSAA provincial tournaments this week.

John McGregor’s girls basketball team is at the ‘AA’ tournament in Kingsville, Chatham Christian’s boys volleyball team is at the ‘A’ tournament in Welland, and CKSS’ boys volleyball team is at the ‘AAA’ tournament in Kingston.

McGregor head coach Carrie Carleton says they’re not taking being ranked #1 in the tournament for granted. “They’re excited about being #1, but we’re looking into the teams and doing some scouting reports, and I’m sure that the other coaches are doing the same. So there is a bit of a target but we are up to the challenge.”

CKSS head coach Brian Leidl says they don’t feel the pressure of being the two-time defending champs. “We just try to do our best, and work hard, have our best showing every time we go out. Every team usually brings their best to play us, so it just helps us improve.”

Chatham Christian Vice Principal Jessica Brooks says the team was very excited to qualify for the provincial tournament. “It’s something they worked towards and came very close last year, so we’re really, really excited to beat Harrow to move on to OFSAA. It was actually Harrow that knocked us out last year so it was nice to be able to beat them this year.”

CK and Chatham Christian open their tournaments at 9am, while McGregor hits the court at 6pm. For full schedules at all the OFSAA tournament, click here.
