Council Brushes Up On Strategy

Chatham-Kent's new council is set to make some binding strategic decisions in less than a month.

New and old councillors met on Monday for their first strategic session, allowing for a review of the municipality's direction.

"We were talking in broad strokes for the most part," says Trevor Thompson, the newly elected councillor for Ward 2. "So really it was just going over [strategic priorites] again to get the new councillors up to speed on some of the areas we want to be looking at, like investing in people, investing in health and looking at job creation."

A December 10 meeting will see the new council come together for a second strategic meeting where it will set its priorities for the term.

"If we're going to be successful as a council, what kind of metrics are we going to look at?" Asks Thompson. "In four years time, I want to see a population that's grown, a population that is working and one that is healthier than where we're at today."
