Kids With Cancer Help Others

Local kids with cancer are helping others kick the disease to the curb.

Elimelech Goldberg founded Kids Kicking Cancer in Windsor 15 years ago.

Goldberg says the idea is to have these kids help others by using martial arts techniques to manage pain. "Rather than being victims of disease, the children actually become teachers. They're victors," says Goldberg. "(They) use the martial arts, which is metaphor, but it's also in the child's mind a symbol of power. Martial arts is really about the cognitive capacity, the mental ability to face down whatever is facing us."

The Kids Kicking Cancer program now spans four countries. Goldberg is also nominated for CNN's Top Ten Hero of the Year.
