Stonehouse Bridge Up For Repairs

The municipality has created a $680,000 plan to update the L.O. Stonehouse Bridge in Wallaceburg.

The plan will focus on the structure's north end, a concrete remnant of the original bridge that stood in the early 1900s. It will be replaced by a truss segment similar to the bridge's middle section. This comes after the bridge was one of a few that was up for closure a short time ago.

"That was something that was discussd back in December 2013," says Manager of Infrastructure and Transportation Stephen Jahns. "The community of Wallaceburg essentially backed the statement that the bridge was critical to the transportation network of the community."

The bridge is one of 19 up for refurbishing in Chatham-Kent. The money to fund the projects will come from strategic reserves from the municipality. The plan will be introduced to Chatham-Kent Council in January and if the plans are approved, the project would shut the bridge down to foot traffic from April-June 2015.
