International Tournament Termed A Success

With help from over 300 volunteers, the recent World Under 17 Hockey Challenge held in Sarnia-Lambton is being termed a success.

Although there were some concerns expressed about attendance, Tourism Sarnia-Lambton says the lowest figure was 1,400 which is a respectable number. Many of the games in Lambton Shores sold out.

Spokesperson Vicki Praill says the community made the players feel at home. She says the international teams said they went above and beyond all expectations.

Praill says Hockey Canada was pleased with the way the event was put together.

The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge was expected to generate about $3-million for the local economy but Praill says there are no final numbers just yet. She believes Sarnia-Lambton will be able to host a similar event in the future.
