Essex County Council is joining the Town of Essex in formally opposing the pending closure of the obstetrics ward at Leamington District Memorial Hospital.

Lakeshore Deputy Mayor Al Fazio hopes the resolution to the Erie-St. Clair LHIN will help sway their decision.

“I don’t know, when you’re dealing with governments as far as swaying them, you know they have their mandate and they have to do what they have to do,” says Fazio. “As mayors and deputy mayors we have to do our job of representing the people of the county and hopefully [the LHIN] sees it our way.”

Fazio seconded the motion from Kingsville Deputy Mayor Tamara Stomp which passed with unanimous support from county council.

The Erie-St-Clair LHIN is holding a special meeting November 12 at the Roma Club in Leamington on the issue starting at 5pm. Speakers are encouraged to register before the meeting.
