Politicians have always needed thick skins, but newly re-elected Mayor Randy Hope is concerned social media insults are taking politics to a new low.

Hope is concerned it will make Canadian politics resemble American political mud slinging.

“Without facts, without proving what your comments are, it’s about creating a negative storm out there that can affect a family and can affect the individual who is running,” he says. “I’m more concerned about what it is going to do to the political future of Canada.”

He is worried potentially good candidates will decide not to run.
