Long waits for election results in Leamington, Kingsville and Tecumseh made for a frustrating night for candidates and residents on Election Day.

“I’m very disappointed,” says John Paterson, re-elected as mayor in Leamington. “While we were waiting I got onto the Scytl website and sent a message: ‘According to your sales pitch it was going to be fast and easy. You said shortly after 8pm and it’s now 11:30pm.'”

Scytl Canada was hired in Leamington, Kingsville and Tecumseh to conduct online voting. Both Nelson Santos in Kingsville and Gary McNamara in Tecumseh were re-elected as mayor.

In Amherstburg, Aldo DiCarlo won the race to be mayor for the financially troubled municipality beating out council incumbent’s John Sutton and Ron Sutherland.

“The first thing that I’m going to do different is we’re going to start sharing information,” says DiCarlo. “This council had a lot of in camera meetings. We had a CAO that was just flat out denying residents information that they were entitled to.”

Elsewhere in Essex County, Ken Antaya was re-elected in LaSalle, Tom Bain re-elected in Lakeshore and Ron McDermott re-elected in Essex winning a tight race ahead of challengers Ron Rogers, Bill Baker and Andy Comber.

Pelee Island saw Dave DeLelis elected while Darlene Wiper, Dayne Malloch and Pete Letkeman were re-elected. Rick Masse was acclaimed as mayor for another term.
