Katie Omstead is the Chatham-Kent-Leamington Liberal candidate for next year’s federal election.

Omstead is trying to upset Conservative MP Dave Van Kesteren in the newly renamed riding (formerly Chatham-Kent-Essex) that now includes communities like Stoney Point, Comber, Lighthouse Cove and Pelee Island.

“Growing up in Wheatley and living in Leamington, I haven’t seen much of Mr. Van Kesteren in our area. I don’t think he’s really connected to community members here,” says Omstead. “I feel that I have the grassroots connection and that will be a huge benefit.”

About 300 Liberal members voted in the race between Omstead and Matt Daudlin. The federal election is set for next fall.
