UPDATE: WB 401 Crash

Westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 just east of Chatham are now open after a single-vehicle crash.

OPP say that just before 8 am, a Pontiac Minivan left the westbound lane of the 401 near Kent Bridge Road into the centre median. The vehicle then came back onto the westbound 401, resting on its side. Police have still not released the exact cause of the crash.

There were three men in the minivan at the time of the crash. One, a 33-year-old from Windsor, was ejected from the vehicle. The 37-year-old driver as well as another passenger aged 32, both from North York, were trapped inside. The passenger who was ejected from the vehicle was airlifted to a London hospital with life-threatening injuries. The two trapped inside were taken to local hospital, where their injuries are being assessed by medical staff.

A technical accident investigation team had been looking into the incident while westbound lanes were closed this morning.
